Peppermint Essential Oil
What is Peppermint?
The Peppermint plant is an aromatic herb in the mint family which is a hybrid mint of both spearmint and watermint.
We source our mint from India where it is a widely cultivated herb,
but did you know it's thought that over 100 years ago some of the finest crops were descended from plants
which were grown in Mitcham, Surrey, less than 10 miles from our Head Office?
The fact that you can now find naturally growing peppermint practically anywhere in the world is a testament,
not only to its adaptability, but also an indication of its medicinal properties.
What are the key benefits?
At Aromatherapy Associates we originally started using Peppermint oil in our essential oil blends to help a client with her sensitive digestion, as the soothing properties can aid with gas and bloating.
However, Peppermint is traditionally used to alleviate cold symptoms, its menthol vapours act as an effective decongestant, helping to clear our senses, combat fatigue and support jaded energy.
The inhalation of peppermint oil is also known to help with cognitive function, perfect for staying alert during winter’s dark evenings.
Many, including us, see peppermint oil as one of the most useful essential oils, and it’s no surprise due to its multiple benefits.
Where do we use it?
We use Peppermint oil in our Support Lavender & Peppermint essential oil blend, where our extraordinarily high concentrations of premium oils can counter moments of indulgence, dissolve tension headaches and even ease sunburn.
Whether you are soaking or showering with our Support Breathe blends, make the moment matter and emerge feeling rejuvenated and comforted.
"Peppermint adds a fresh, clean sense of clarity to any blend –
whilst we may be most familiar with its use in toothpaste or food flavourings,
it has been used for thousands of years to help various ailments."
